In training (eating and ear)

Today we went to the Composer's Weekend at the Konserthuset
(home of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra), featuring the Swedish composer Benjamin Staern.  Just like with our choice of ballet last week, we are picking programs that we are unlikely to see in the US.  Even Noah hadn't heard of this composer.  The concert featured a Norwegian female conductor known for her interesting programming of people like Lili Boulanger. whose piece was also on the program as it inspired the featured commissioned symphony.  The composer loves percussion, there were 5 percussionists on stage!  In the lobby they had the scores of his pieces available for perusal (and a button for swag).  Like in the US, new music doesn't seem very popular as the hall was maybe half empty.  Also similarly to home, the audience for classical music seems to be senior citizens (although maybe the matinee was a factor).
  • Benjamin Staern Jubilate
  • Benjamin Staern Sånger om bländvit kärlek for contra alto and orchestra
  • Lili Boulanger D’un soir triste
  • Benjamin Staern Symphony No. 2 ’’Through Purgatory to Paradise’’
  • Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra
  • Cathrine Winnes conductor
  • Anna Larsson alto
Scandinavia has become a surprising food mecca with some of the best restaurants in the world.  We are definitely excited to be able to take advantage of the many local options.  This week we did the first rung of the Michelin ladder and went to Agrikultur, a Michelin 1* and one of the World's 50-Best Discovery. It did not disappoint, here is the menu (basically you have no choice but the tasting).  Very locavore and very creative. And it is even an extremely close eating option to our apartment, so a dangerous neighborhood joint to have!  They have less than 20 seats though, so need a reservation well in advance.
